Đà Lạt không cần máy lạnh nên hoá đơn thấp hơn hẳn Đà Nẵng hay Sài Gòn. Internet cáp quang 300 Mbps khoảng 190–195 nghìn ₫ một tháng.
Cẩn thận. The state electricity tariff is 1,984–3,460₫/kWh, but landlords commonly charge a flat 3,500–4,000₫. Agree the rate in writing before you move in.

recharging a dead battery · đã kiểm chứng
A mechanic who comes to the bike rather than the other way round. This is the number you save in advance: stalled on a pass, a dead battery outside a cafe, a puncture in the rain — no pushing the scooter uphill to the nearest workshop. They fix automatic scooters and motorbikes, and take cars too. They brought our dead battery back to life on the spot for 100,000₫.

A coffee shop with a working room that never closes — and does not charge for the seat. In a town where almost everything goes dark by nine, and the one proper coworking space shuts at midnight and costs 120,000₫ a day, that is a rare thing: you can turn up at three in the morning with a laptop, when the client in Europe is mid-working-day.

Laundry by weight, the way it works in Vietnam: you hand over a bag and get it back washed, dried and folded. One of the cheapest in town, and they collect and return the bag themselves at no charge — arrangements are made by message.
city centre
A workshop that does small repairs while you wait: speaker, microphone, buttons, charging port, screen replacement — fifteen to thirty minutes. For a visitor that is the whole point: here the phone is your map, your translator and your wallet, and you cannot be without it even for a day.

Xuan Huong · Mon-Sat 08:00–19:00, Sun 08:00–17:00
A private dental clinic a short walk from the centre: cleaning, fillings, extractions, prosthetics and braces under one roof. Open seven days, until five on Sunday — for a visitor that matters more than a rating, because a tooth does not start hurting on schedule.

Cần biết trước. Book direct on the operator's own website — Viet Challenge, Phat Tire Ventures, Dalat Canyoning or Dalattrip. Copycat firms reuse these names and near-identical logos. Never book at a hostel desk.
Cẩn thận. Three separate fatal accidents here — three Britons in 2016, a Polish tourist and guide in 2017, a South Korean visitor in 2018 — all involved unlicensed guides. If a hostel offers canyoning under 1,000,000₫, refuse: that price only works without insurance or certified guides.

Nearest international-standard hospital lưu ý
Vinmec Nha Trang · 137 km, 3–4 h
Da Lat has no international hospital — no FV, no Vinmec, no Family Medical Practice. Vinmec Nha Trang at 137 km is the closest, and materially faster to reach than Saigon.
Cần biết trước. For anything planned or complex, Ho Chi Minh City has FV Hospital and Vinmec Central Park, both JCI-accredited with direct billing, plus Family Medical Practice which has English, French and Russian speakers and runs medevac.
Cẩn thận. Insurance with medical evacuation cover is the single most important decision a family makes before moving here.
Long Chau pharmacy
Branches city-wide
The biggest chain in Vietnam with roughly 2,100 stores. Paracetamol, ibuprofen, antihistamines, loperamide and omeprazole are all freely available.
Cần biết trước. Bring your own supply of any chronic or specialist medication — the range in Da Lat is narrower than Saigon and pharmacists rarely speak English. Write down the generic name, not your home brand.
Visa-free entry — 45 days nên đi
Russia · Korea · UK · most of the EU
Russia, South Korea, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Japan all get 45 days visa-free for any purpose, valid to March 2028.
Cần biết trước. Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland also get 45 days, but for tourism purposes only — a real difference if you are coming to work.
Cẩn thận. The USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China and India are NOT exempt and need an e-visa. Several travel sites list them wrongly. This is information, not legal advice — verify at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn.
E-visa — up to 90 days
evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn
$25–50
single / multiple entry · đã kiểm chứng
Open to every nationality since 2023, up to 90 days. Multiple entry at $50 is usually the sensible buy if you plan any regional travel.
Cần biết trước. Processing takes about three working days; apply at least a week ahead. The entry port on the visa must match where you actually arrive.
Cẩn thận. The e-visa cannot be extended from inside Vietnam. The fee is non-refundable even if you are refused. There is no retirement visa in Vietnam.
This is where a foreigner in Da Lat goes for anything involving their stay: extending a visa, applying for a temporary residence card, dealing with a lost passport or a registration problem. Applications are handed in and documents collected at the province's one-stop administrative centre at 19 Tran Phu, in the middle of town — you do not need to go anywhere else for ordinary matters.

Viettel has the most consistent coverage in the highlands. On the passes and farm roads the other networks drop out and Viettel does not.
Cần biết trước. 7 days is 60k, 15 days is 80k. Passport registration is legally required for a physical SIM — buy at an official store, not a phone stall, and skip the airport kiosks which charge 20–30% more. eSIM from resellers usually needs no passport.

VPBank and Eximbank are usually the cheapest for foreign cards — VPBank has been reported as free with a 10,000,000₫ per-transaction limit. Vietcombank is the most common and the worst value at 50–66k with a 2–3M cap.
Cần biết trước. Always decline conversion into your card's currency and choose VND. Withdraw the maximum in one go to spread the flat fee — it is charged per transaction, not per amount. You need cash daily: street food, markets and small cafes do not take cards.
Cẩn thận. VietQR, which everyone local pays with, needs a Vietnamese bank account. Tourists cannot use it, and there is no support for European or Russian home systems. Korean visitors can pay via GLN.

A gold shop that changes cash — standard practice in Vietnam and usually the best rate in town: a bank gives less, an airport counter gives far less. A bank account for a foreigner and paying by QR
city-wide
With an account at a Vietnamese bank you can go almost cashless in Da Lat: you pay by scanning the merchant's QR code inside your banking app. It works in cafes, shops, with taxi drivers and at the market — say "QR" and they will show you the code. This is the national VietQR standard, nothing to set up separately: every major bank app has it.
Cần biết trước. The central bank rules ask a foreigner for a valid passport and a visa or a visa-exemption document. No minimum visa length is set by law — the "twelve months" is an internal bank policy and differs from bank to bank. Banks add proof of address: the police temporary-residence paper or a rental contract. At VietinBank we were asked for the passport and the paper registration.
Cẩn thận. On a 90-day e-visa the outcome is decided not by the bank but by the branch and even the clerk — the one thing everyone who takes foreigners to banks agrees on. Online lists of "this one opens, that one doesn't" contradict each other and go stale within months: in the summer of 2026 some sources say the big banks stopped opening accounts on an e-visa, while others report the opposite in the same weeks. So go with the full set — passport, printed visa, proof of address and a local SIM in your own name for the codes — and if refused, do not argue, try another branch. With a temporary residence card, a one-year visa or a work permit the account is opened the same day, no lottery. Plan a branch visit for the biometrics: without them online transfers have not worked since 2025, and a transfer over 10M VND at once or 20M VND a day needs face confirmation; a foreigner can only be enrolled in person. Headlines about banks refusing passports from 2026 do not apply to you — that rule is about Vietnamese citizens.

Pink walls on a stone base, steep tiled roofs with dormers, a row of pointed windows and urns of chrysanthemums along the drive — the complex stands out in the city by colour alone and is visible from afar. Locals call it Nhà thờ Mai Anh. It is a working convent rather than a museum: people come for the service, while visitors photograph the facade from the forecourt. The grounds look out over the valley and the tiled roofs below.

A separate page holds an entirely vegan menu that runs all day: bagels on their own buns with cashew cream cheese and carrot 'bacon', an English breakfast without a single animal product, a Buddha bowl.

The largest private general hospital in Da Lat and the realistic first stop for a foreign family. Under one roof: specialist consultations, surgery, obstetrics and paediatrics, with the hospital's own laboratory, CT, MRI, X-ray and ultrasound; part of the Hoan My group, one of the biggest private healthcare networks in the country. Some of the doctors and staff speak English. The A&E deserves its own note: it runs around the clock and takes adults and children. We tested it ourselves — a child split his head open, was seen at once, stitched and sent home with medicines; the whole visit came to 1.1M₫, about forty-two dollars, medicines included. There is no separate children's A&E; children are seen in the general one.

Fungus between the toes after the rainy season, rashes from bites, sunburn at altitude, inflamed scratches that heal slower up in the mountains: for these you go here rather than to a hospital. A level green field in the pine forest where children are given rides on horses and ponies — the child sits, an adult leads the horse by the bridle, so no riding experience is needed at all. A painted concrete path runs around the field: children ride scooters and balance bikes on it while they wait their turn. Find it by the Balava chocolate house: the field lies directly below, the whole of it visible from the cafe terrace, where parents usually sit with a cocoa.

A shop in the Dreams Mart and Condotel building, the place to go for what the local markets do not carry: cheese and cured meat, frozen roti flatbreads, grains and spices, rocket and other salad greens. A normal Da Lat grocery run does not cover that list — the supermarkets here are for rice, noodles and vegetables, while cheese and salad leaves have to be hunted down separately.
A plumber on call: he works across town, with the phone and the Zalo account on one number. Friends of ours have had him out and were happy with the work. A private money changer we use ourselves, and more than once. Cash is optional: he can transfer to a Vietnamese account, or hand it over by QR code through BIDV and Vietcombank ATMs anywhere in the country. On request, Thai baht through Bangkok Bank ATMs in Thailand.
A border run by car with your own group, instead of the night bus and instead of flying. It suits the people the other two options fail: you cannot put a cat or a dog in a coach cabin, for a family of three or four the flights cost more than the car, and the drive itself turns into a short trip with stops rather than a day in a seat. It is run by the same person who delivers currency exchange around Da Lat.

The place is built around one idea: your tea is warmed on charcoal at your own table. A grate is cut into a solid wood slab, coals glow underneath, a glass pot sits on top — the drink finishes in front of you and stays hot through the whole conversation, which in Da Lat damp matters more than tasting notes. The garden sits under a roof: tree ferns as tall as a person, a stream with wooden footbridges, gravel underfoot, a fire pit in the middle of the room and folding chairs around it. The roof is translucent with strips of cloth stretched over it, so the light stays daylight and the rain stays outside. Some tables are set at the edge of the slope, with a view over the valley and the built-up hill opposite.

A workshop and a shop in one. They clean trainers, shoes and bags: we have taken pairs here several times and they come back looking new — washed, stains gone, no grey film on the sole. At 60–80,000₫ it is the best money you can spend on footwear in town; in Europe the same cleaning costs as much as a new pair. Da Lat needs it more than it sounds: it rains for half the year, the mountain tracks are clay, and white trainers stop being white within a week. The other half of the business is retail: they sell trainers and clothes made for export to Europe, at Vietnamese prices. The clothing has a separate room on the first floor, and you cannot tell from below — from the street it looks like nothing but a shoe workshop.
Flat and house cleaning by arrangement. Contact goes over Zalo, which beats calling: a map pin and photos of the rooms go straight through, and the text can run through a translator, so there is no need to make English or Vietnamese work. You agree a specific day and hour rather than «sometime this week».
A long-let agent. Viewings here happen in person: several addresses are lined up and driven round in one go, so allow half a day and follow on your own bike. The request goes over Zalo — district, budget in dong, term — and the options come back with photos and map pins.
A long-let agent. Houses and flats in Da Lat barely appear on listing sites: the market runs on people, each with their own folder of addresses, and finding something decent without an intermediary is rare. It works like this: you send the district, the budget in dong and the term over Zalo, and back comes a list with photos and map pins to choose viewings from. The correspondence is in Vietnamese, but the text goes through a translator fine.
A long-let agent we used ourselves: he found us a modern, warm house — a rarity by local standards, because there is no heating in this town and most houses go cold in winter. Contact is over Zalo: you send the district, the budget and the term, and the answer comes back as a list with photos and map pins. The text runs through a translator, so no Vietnamese needed.

Every foreigner's address must be declared within 12 hours of arrival. It is your landlord's or hotel's legal duty, not yours — but it is your problem if they skip it.
Cần biết trước. On your first day in a new rental, ask your landlord for proof they filed it and photograph it. Undeclared residence causes problems later at extension or residence-card stage.
Cẩn thận. Since 15 Dec 2025 the fines on the accommodation provider run from 3M to 25M₫. Since May 2026 filing goes through a unified national platform. District-level police no longer exist — go to ward police. If the landlord ignores the filing, it is you the police come to. They turn up at the rented place — sometimes at five in the morning — and wait there until the owner appears. Do not pass the place on to friends without the owner’s agreement, which means without registering the new residents with the police. Somebody will complain, the police will come and move them out, and your relationship with the owner will most likely end there.

A home fermentation business that has been running in town for a year. The regular range is sauerkraut, kefir, courgette caviar and salted fish, with kvass and kombucha on the way. Everything comes packed and labelled: the label carries the ingredients and the best-before date — cabbage, carrot, salt, sugar and lactic acid bacteria in the kraut, cow milk and a starter culture in the kefir, and nothing else. Orders go through Telegram, and that is also where you ask what is available this week, because the range changes. The customers are not only Russian: there are French and Vietnamese among them.

This is an evening in itself, not a photo stop — everyone we know who has been came back impressed, without exception.

A hotel and a park at once: a hundred hectares of pine forest at the foot of Nui Voi — Elephant Mountain — half an hour from Da Lat along the airport road. It is built not as a hotel with a garden but as a park with villas inside it: you are driven around in a buggy, and you can either stay the night or come for the day on a ticket. The themed zones are borrowed from other cultures and each sits on its own slope: a Japanese garden with a red torii gate, a house under a curved roof, clipped ball-shaped shrubs and beds of hydrangeas; a Chinese courtyard with a round moon gate in the wall, a pavilion under a hundred silk lanterns and carved wooden screens; a Korean hanok; a Central Highlands village with longhouses. In the middle is a lake with a fountain, a gilded seated Buddha on a platform in the middle of a white bridge, and above it, up the steps, a Zen monastery with an orange tiled roof and a white statue of Guanyin. Between the zones run stone paths, boardwalks along the stream and benches under bamboo and pines. The lodging is scattered over the hills: three-storey white villas with mansard roofs and flower names — Tulip, Mimosa, Lavender — on one slope, a row of container bungalows with wooden decks above the valley on another. The rooms are modern and expensively finished: backlit timber battens on the wall, a full-height window with two armchairs and a small table, a freestanding tub by a blinded window. The view over the pine hills is the main reason to come: in the rain the mist crawls along the ridges, and you see it just as well from the decks as from the room window.

A cafe that turned the local oddity into a menu: black garlic is grown in Lam Dong, and here it goes into a signature coffee, a latte and even ice cream. The taste is not garlicky in the usual sense — fermented garlic reads closer to molasses and balsamic. The other half of the place is a bakery: butter croissants baked daily. We tried the coffee and the pastry ourselves and have no complaints. The stone-walled room looks into a garden, and upstairs there is a roastery with its own roaster and shelves of beans.

A bar built on milk and the picture in the cup — the sign says it outright: by dhc latte artist. Behind the counter stand latte-art awards in the name of Dang Hung Cuong, including a judging certificate from the 2025 championship, and this is the rare case where the paper on the wall is backed by the cup: the cappuccino and the latte here are genuinely good. The building is French, with mouldings and arched windows; inside the floor is a black-and-white harlequin, bright and tight, with some tables out on the pavement. The room next door holds a long bar with a professional machine and a wall of certificates: that is where barista and latte-art training happens rather than service.

Panorama lets flats long-term, and there are a lot of them. It is round, with a full-height light well inside: the floors run in a ring, the flat doors open onto a circular balcony with a lattice rail, and the light falls from above. The layouts inside are unusual. The fit-out differs from flat to flat and you see it at once: some are done in black and white marble with gloss fronts, others are light, with timber panelling on walls and ceiling, an olive splashback in the kitchen and coloured upholstery. What they share: a kitchen with an induction hob, oven and extractor, built-in wardrobes to the ceiling, air conditioning, a wall-mounted television, and a separate bathroom with a glassed-in shower and a water heater. Three types are let — one bedroom, two bedrooms, and a larger two-bedroom; each has its own living room with a kitchen. The windows look over the town — Da Lat’s roofs and the hills behind them; some flats have a terrace along the window, some a balcony over the street.

Matcha here is not an add-on to the coffee, it is the whole point: the matcha list alone runs to eighteen drinks, from a plain latte to matcha with coconut water, cantaloupe juice, soda and yuzu. The powder comes in two grades — standard Vietnamese and a premium one for a surcharge — and the menu carries a chart of how they differ in colour, bitterness, astringency and umami. The building matches: a half-timbered front with a tiled roof and an arched entrance, dark beams and paper screens inside, a raised tatami platform with low tables and cushions, and along the wall a dry garden of white gravel, stepping stones and a bamboo screen. There are ordinary armchairs by the window too, if sitting on the floor is not for you.
The shop of a Da Lat project called Thời Thanh Xuân, where the essential oils and the soap are made by deaf craftspeople: the name hangs above the shelves and under it the same letters spelled out in fingerspelling. By the counter stands a tray of mortars, test tubes and pipettes: the oils are there to be smelled and blended, not only sold in a box. Beyond the ready-made bottles they run workshops.
