Visa run from Da Lat in 2026: three routes with real prices

Da Lat has no border of its own, so the choice is between two land routes and a flight. What it costs depends on your passport: Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Korea, Japan and Scandinavia get 45 days stamped at the border for free and pay only for travel. Everyone else needs a new e-visa on top.

Three routes at a glance

RouteTimePer personMain catch
Laos, Bo Y2 days≈1.4M ₫return bus runs only in the afternoon
Cambodia, Moc Bai1.5 days2.5–4.7M ₫Cambodian visa 30 USD on top
Flight via Cam Ranh1–2 daysfrom 60 USD + 300k ₫a return ticket is asked for at check-in
The rule that decides the route A land exit reaches the immigration database about a week later: an e-visa applied for right after the crossing comes back refused, saying you are still in the country. A flight updates the record instantly, so the new visa can be applied for from the airport. Officially unconfirmed, but it repeats in every account.
1 Laos: Ngoc Hoi and the Bo Y crossing the usual choice from Da Lat · two days ≈1.4M ₫

The cheapest way out and the one most people take. Everything hangs on the bus: once a day each way, and the return is in the afternoon, so half a day goes to waiting.

  1. Buy the ticket on Vexere or at the separate window — 540,000–600,000 ₫ one way, cash only. The main bus station does not sell these.
  2. Take the 17:30–18:00 bus, about twelve hours. Three-row sleeper, no toilet, one meal stop — bring food.
  3. From Ngoc Hoi to the border: taxi from 400,000 ₫, or 200,000 per person with a local fixer who also lends a motorbike and feeds you lunch afterwards.
  4. Cross, collect the stamps, come back the same way. The return bus leaves in the afternoon.
  • Cheapest of the three: about 1.42M ₫ including the 120,000 handed over at the border
  • No second country's visa if your passport gets Laos on arrival
  • Two full days, twelve hours of road each way
  • Bo Y does not issue visas on arrival to every passport — some are sent to Da Nang first
  • The carrier calls on the day, in Vietnamese only, and departure can move to a filling station nearby
2 Cambodia: Ho Chi Minh City and Moc Bai faster, dearer · a day and a half 2.5–4.7M ₫

You sleep through the road instead of losing a day to it. The spread is the visa: apply yourself in advance and it is 2.5 million, have an agent do it in three hours at the border and it is 4.7.

  1. Night sleeper Da Lat → Ho Chi Minh City, 5.5–6.5 hours. Phuong Trang 200,000–450,000 ₫, premium 500,000.
  2. From An Suong station minibuses run to the crossing every 20–30 minutes from five in the morning, 100,000–120,000 ₫. A transfer both ways is 500,000; a whole car about 2M for four.
  3. Cambodian visa at the border: 30 USD in cash. In đồng the rate is bad and they ask 35. An e-visa bought in advance is cheaper and takes up less space in the passport.
  4. Coming back, 200,000 ₫ to the local helpers gets you past the queue. Agree in advance whether everyone pays — one person queueing alone held up a full car for an hour.
  • One night out instead of two days
  • Buses run all night, so you pick the departure time
  • Regulars who crossed here seven times report nothing asked beyond the visa fee
  • The Cambodian visa is 30 USD on top of everything else
  • From six to nine in the evening the exits from Ho Chi Minh City jam: take the 21:00–22:00 bus back
3 Flight: via Cam Ranh for now, from Da Lat soon the fastest visa · one or two days from 60 USD + 300k ₫

The only route where the new visa arrives while you are still at the airport: a flight registers the exit instantly. Until 19 August the takeoff is from Cam Ranh, three to four hours away.

  1. Da Lat → Cam Ranh by day van, 170,000–300,000 ₫, with hotel pickup. Or a taxi if the flight is early.
  2. Fly to Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur — tickets from about 60 USD one way.
  3. Apply for the new e-visa right after departure: the database already shows you outside the country.
  4. Have a return or onward ticket ready — at check-in out of Vietnam it is asked for often.
  • The visa is not held up by the week-long lag of land crossings
  • A trip rather than an ordeal: a couple of days elsewhere instead of a night on a bus
  • Dearest of the three once flight, road and hotel are counted
  • Until 19 August every flight starts with three to four hours of mountain road
From 19 August the third route gets shorter Lien Khuong reopens on 19 August 2026 for domestic flights and from 2 September for international ones — Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Japan and Hong Kong are named. From then the flight route starts in Da Lat itself and the road to Cam Ranh drops out of the bill.

Separate the state fee from what agents charge

The e-visa fee is 25 USD for single entry and 50 for multiple, with official processing of about three working days. Agents at the border charge 1.8–2 million ₫ per person to have it done in three or four hours on the day of the crossing. Broken down: the multiple-entry visa itself is about 1.3 million ₫ at current rates, so the agent's work and the speed cost 0.5–0.7 million on top — 20 to 27 dollars. Wait a day or more and they charge less. Applying yourself a week ahead is half the price, but then the dates have to line up: an e-visa cannot be extended from inside Vietnam, which is why these trips exist.

What to sort out before you go

Prices and timings are what people who made these trips in June–August 2026 paid and measured. Border rules and fees change without notice — confirm before you book.

Options and prices

Da Lat ⇄ Ho Chi Minh City must
Phuong Trang (FUTA), 2 Le Quy Don
200–450k₫
$8–18
checked
With the airport closed this is the main way in and out. Phuong Trang runs 41-seat sleepers with wifi and a free hotel shuttle at both ends.
Worth knowing. Book on Vexere or 12Go two or three days ahead. Ask for the lower deck, berths 4–12 — much steadier on the mountain passes.
Careful. Thanh Buoi has been running this route as contract buses rather than a licensed fixed route since early 2025. Prefer Phuong Trang.
Da Lat ⇄ Nha Trang
Limousine vans, 11 departures daily
170–300k₫
$6.50–11.50
checked
The fast escape to the sea, and right now also the route to the nearest open airport, Cam Ranh (CXR).
Worth knowing. Runs as daytime vans with hotel pickup, not overnight sleepers. The Khanh Le pass is spectacular — sit on the right going down.
Da Lat ⇄ Mui Ne
Limousine vans, 3 departures daily
250–490k₫
$9.60–19
checked
The sand dunes. Since the 2025 merger Mui Ne is technically the same province as Da Lat, and it is one of Vietnam's two Russian-speaking hubs.
Worth knowing. Not a day trip — the dunes are a sunrise and sunset thing. Plan at least one night.
Visa-free entry — 45 days must
Russia · Korea · UK · most of the EU
checked
Russia, South Korea, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Japan all get 45 days visa-free for any purpose, valid to March 2028.
Worth knowing. Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland also get 45 days, but for tourism purposes only — a real difference if you are coming to work.
Careful. The USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China and India are NOT exempt and need an e-visa. Several travel sites list them wrongly. This is information, not legal advice — verify at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn.
E-visa — up to 90 days
evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn
$25–50
checked
Open to every nationality since 2023, up to 90 days. Multiple entry at $50 is usually the sensible buy if you plan any regional travel.
Worth knowing. Processing takes about three working days; apply at least a week ahead. The entry port on the visa must match where you actually arrive.
Careful. The e-visa cannot be extended from inside Vietnam. The fee is non-refundable even if you are refused. There is no retirement visa in Vietnam.
Police registration (tam tru) must
Ward police · lamdong.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn
checked
Every foreigner's address must be declared within 12 hours of arrival. It is your landlord's or hotel's legal duty, not yours — but it is your problem if they skip it.
Worth knowing. On your first day in a new rental, ask your landlord for proof they filed it and photograph it. Undeclared residence causes problems later at extension or residence-card stage.
Careful. Since 15 Dec 2025 the fines on the accommodation provider run from 3M to 25M₫. Since May 2026 filing goes through a unified national platform. District-level police no longer exist — go to ward police.
Immigration office of Lam Dong province heads-up
19 Tran Phu, central Da Lat
checked
This is where a foreigner in Da Lat goes for anything involving their stay: extending a visa, applying for a temporary residence card, dealing with a lost passport or a registration problem. Applications are handed in and documents collected at the province's one-stop administrative centre at 19 Tran Phu, in the middle of town — you do not need to go anywhere else for ordinary matters.
Worth knowing. Bring the passport, a copy of it, the entry stamp or visa, and proof that your address was registered by the landlord. Vietnamese officials work with paper: print everything in advance rather than showing it on a screen. Come in the morning — the office breaks for lunch and the afternoon queue is longer.
Careful. Two addresses circulate online and both send you to the wrong place. The immigration department itself moved on 20 March 2026 to 210 Quoc lo 20 in Duc Trong, thirty kilometres south on the airport road — that is where documents are processed, not where you hand them in. And many sites still publish the old address at 15 Tran Hung Dao, which has not been in use for a long time. For ordinary matters go to 19 Tran Phu.
