Internet in Da Lat in 2026: real speeds, prices and what breaks
Rankings say Vietnam averages 285 Mbps and city guides say Da Lat runs at 10. Both are true and neither is your flat. We measured our own line on 5 August 2026: 380.67 Mbps down, 19 ms ping, Viettel fibre, 190,000–195,000 ₫ a month. Here is how to end up on that line rather than the 10 Mbps one.
Where the 10 Mbps number comes from
Ten megabits is the public layer: café wifi, guesthouse routers shared by twenty rooms, and the cheapest home plans landlords buy for tenants. Home fibre is a different service. On a modern plan you get a couple of hundred megabits and a stable ping, which is why remote workers here rarely complain about the connection itself — they complain about the router in the rental.
Ask what plan the flat is on before you sign
The line belongs to the landlord, not to you, and its speed is set by the plan they pay for. Ask for the provider name, the plan and the monthly price, then run a speed test standing in the room where you will work. Three hundred megabit fibre costs 190,000–195,000 ₫ a month — small enough that a landlord will often upgrade if you offer to cover the difference.
The rainy season does not cut the internet
Five months of living here from March to August 2026, rainy season included, and the home line did not drop once. Storms knock out power more often than they knock out fibre, so the thing worth buying is not a backup provider but a UPS for the router and a phone plan you can tether from.
Keep a SIM as the backup, not another line
A Viettel SIM with 5 GB a day costs 150,000 ₫ for thirty days — cheaper than a second fixed line and it works on the road, in cafés and on the passes where you will be riding. Buy it in an official shop with your passport: street kiosks sell unregistered SIMs that stop working without warning.
Test the café before you plan a workday there
Public wifi is where the low numbers come from. A café that is fine for mail can fall apart on a video call at five in the afternoon, when everyone else is also working. Run a speed test on arrival, and if you have a call that matters, take it at home or in a coworking space.

A coffee shop with a working room that never closes — and does not charge for the seat. In a town where almost everything goes dark by nine, and the one proper coworking space shuts at midnight and costs 120,000₫ a day, that is a rare thing: you can turn up at three in the morning with a laptop, when the client in Europe is mid-working-day.
Cần biết trước. Call 0399 682 903 to check whether the room is open on a particular night: round-the-clock here rests on people rather than on a schedule. Power and wi-fi are what people come for; the wall socket is the first thing taken.
Viettel has the most consistent coverage in the highlands. On the passes and farm roads the other networks drop out and Viettel does not.

A dedicated coworking rather than a cafe with wifi: proper desks, chairs you can sit in for eight hours, and a quiet room — the thing missing from every cafe in town.

No booking needed, you walk in and sit down. The way in is through the NGỰ cafe from the street, then up to the first floor. They work until midnight, a rarity in a town where almost everything shuts at nine.
Three floors of work seats plus separate rooms, and the seat itself is free — you pay only for what you order. The glazing is continuous, so every floor gets plenty of light: tables run along the windows, the upper floors look over tiled roofs and the town, the ground floor over the trees and the street. Sockets are well placed and there is one at every seat, so no cable across half the room. The coffee is roasted here and it is genuinely good: the roaster stands behind a glass wall in a room marked PHÒNG RANG, with scales and beans beside it. The separate rooms are the move when you need to shut the main room out.

The head of the menu says what it is made from: Vietnamese catimor and Brazilian arabica, Da Lat milk, matcha grown on the Lam Dong plateau and processed the Japanese way. There is a cake cabinet by the counter. Find the house by its logo: a round bean stands in place of the first letter on the sign, so from the street it reads RI COFFEE & BRUNCH. Cẩn thận. The wi-fi is weak. On a working visit on a Monday afternoon it carried neither a video call nor even screen sharing — do not plan calls here, only offline work or something light. Sitting for long is uncomfortable: the seats are not chairs but hard wooden stools with a back rest, and after a couple of hours you feel it. It is not always quiet: families with children and schoolkids come in during the day and phones play out loud in the main room — for focused work take one of the separate rooms. There was no food at all on that visit, despite the brunch on the sign, so do not arrive hungry. We did not note the opening hours.
